DMM Autoranging Scale
« on: July 09, 2014, 04:33:40 pm »
I have a Tenma 72-7730  (looks like a Uni-T UT71B clone.)  It has always been a little funky with the Autorange in Ohms mode.  For example, measuring a 100 ohm resistor that is 101.7 ohms will read as .1017 K ohms.  It is the same for the Meg-ohm scale (101.7 K ohm will read 0.1017 M ohm).  In fact, the only time it chooses the right scale is if the resistor is under 100 Ohms.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?  Is this a common problem?  I tried searching, but I couldn't seem to come up with the magic combination of terms to find this problem.

The UT71B behaves normally, only changing scales when the resistance is higher than the 20,000 count.
For instance a 150 Ohm resistor will read as 149.47 Ohm and a 220 Ohm resistor as 0.2172k Ohm.
