DMM recommendation
« on: March 18, 2017, 04:14:48 am »
I have about 5 pretty decent DMMs yet on my current consulting project that is not really enough. I have mostly Fluke 87 IV and 87Vs and a couple of older Flukes. Money is really no object but durability, reliability and decent peformance with an easy to use feature set is key ( no retarded GUI). I hate junk......and no I will not consider the EEVBlog branded meter or some other rebagged product.....sorry Dave!

I have an Agilent 1733 LCR meter and that beast is a good example of a retarded GUI. I hate using that blasted thing. I much prefer my smart tweezers

I am thinking of just jumping on Amazon and buying another Fluke 87 V. Is that really the best DMM out there in its class today or is there a good reason to consider something else? I dont need killer  benchtop performance  because that is what my  Tek, Agilent and RS gear are for.

Thanks

CORRECTION (OP has been edited for clarity)

Okay. Let me be clear. When I say killer performance I mean >6 1/2 digits, 0.0002 % accuracy, and  drift in PPB....you know, the kind of features you find in a >$1k bench DMM

In a DMM I would like a nice set of features like capacitance, conductance, peak hold, diode measurement temperature, good clear display, backlight, low burden voltage, etc.

Something equivilent or competitive to a FLUKE 87 IV or V is what I seek

If money is no object, have a look at the Chauvin Arnoux MTX3293 or the Gossen Extra M248A.

Take a look at the Gossen range if you want to spend some money:
