| DMM6500 vs 34401A |
| (1/1) |
| jayk:
Just got a new DMM6500 (after waiting months). Started playing with it and comparing it to my trusty 34401A, which hasn't been cal'd in probably a decade. The 34401A is really holding it's own so far - it actually looks to be slightly more accurate in terms of frequency measurement (same signal to all three instruments... the 53181A reference is coming from a GPSDO). |

Looking good, my pair differ a little more than that @ 10V but still agree within the 34401A's 1yr spec, despite it not being calibrated in the 15 years since it left the factory (only the last few months were in my hands). I find it pretty handy having both on the desk - the DMM6500 is great for making more involved measurements e.g. when you want statistics, graphing, complex trigger setups, logging etc, but the 34401A always has leads in it and gets turned on first when I just want a quick measurement, or I need need two meters at once (sure a portable meter will also turn on ~instantly but you have to fish it out of the drawer and it's not as nice to use). |
