Does anyone know of a hackable themocouple thermometer
« on: August 16, 2016, 12:53:30 am »
Hi guys

Does anyone know of any hackable thermocouple thermometers ?

I'm looking for one that has a processor which I could load with custom firmware.

It would have to be one which has a free compiler, as having to spend thousands of dollars on IAR etc would outweigh the cost saving on buying an existing meter.

I've seen lots of meters on AliExpress, costing from $4 upwards, but ones like the "HYELEC" which have 2 buttons would be what I was looking for, as I need some buttons for UI.

The TASI-8620 would also fit the bill, (etc)

But short of buying one of each and taking them apart I have no way to know whether it would be possible to re-purpose them.

(Note. I don't think there is any point contacting the vendors on AliExpress etc, as I don't want to buy thousands of these, but I could need 10's or potentially hundreds of them, and repurposing a pre-made meter is going to be far cheaper than attempting to make one from scratch)
