DPO3034 - Connecting to a PC via USB
« on: March 09, 2024, 01:06:29 am »
Hey All,

I dumpster-dived a DPO3034 marked "Does not communicate with the PC". It seems to run fine standalone and if I connect the Ethernet port then I can see it as a GPIB device and it reacts to IDN.

However, when I plug the USB host into my PC, I see an error - The dreaded Code 43 - A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

Now this isn't a problem for me per see as I have a bench LAN and mostly use the NI-VISA software on my PC but I'm wondering if I'm doing or missing anything when connecting it - I don't think so as it is supposed to be a USBTMC instrument and the NV-VISA software should provide a driver for that but I thought I'd check.

Thoughts?

you wont miss a thing to me, if your lan port is okay

usb is not for very intensive data polling ....   i use lan  on my stuff

code 43 could mean HW failures, not sure its driver related,  check in device manager  for the vid pid error  and try to find if you need drivers

for  visa related    i se Rohde schwartz drivers, lightweight and practical, you have tools to communicate with instruments,  had bench dmm  with usbtmc, and worked very well

Thanks - I generally use GPIB via a NI GPIB-ENET/1000 or simply LAN as you say, so while a number of my instruments do have USB I've never used it.

I think I'm going to just ignore it for now.
