Can you use it? Is the extra price justified?
As for my opinion, no. Maybe in the DS1000 price bracket and below, just barely, but if you're willing to spend >$1000 on a scope and function gen, you're probably better off getting discrete units.

I bought the DS2072A-S because I thought it would be a useful feature to have, and for me it IS a useful feature. However, if you're in the market for a new 'scope the question to ask right now isn't "DS2072A or DS2072A-S", it's "DS2072A, DS2072A-S, MSO2072A or MSO2072A-S" because the mixed signal oscilloscope versions have been added to the range. Had I known, I'd probably have waited for the MSO (then been annoyed by the inevitable launch of a 4-channel MSO2074A-S).
Here's the link to Rigol's new datasheet covering all four models in the 2000 range:

For me it was the choice between the DS1074z and the DS1074z-s.
I chose the z-s as I am extremely limited for space which was the right choice at the time and I'm not disappointed with my purchase.

I've shot the review about "-S" AWG, it seems like this generator in DS1000Z and DS2000A is the same.
One note: voiceover is in Russian.

Does the 2072a-s signal generator make use of the navigation knob in setting the frequency?
Also, the 1000z-s user manual has a section on its signal generator but I haven't yet found a pdf mentioning operation of the 2000-s signal generator. (Just another newbie doing the proverbial 1074Z-s vs 2072a-s gnashing of teeth.)
