DSO112 mini scope FYI $48
« on: May 08, 2015, 06:38:45 pm »
I just ordered a DSO112 and thought to let others know what I found:

User manual:

http://www.jyetech.com/Products/LcdScope/UserManual_112.pdf

Forum:
http://www.jyetech.com/forum/index.php

This is the cheapest I found on ebay with battery (not easy to find with battery)

= $68

then I remembered Aliexpress and searched on the lowest price and this is the first one that came up

= $48

and this one has a battery and is $20 cheaper than the cheapest ebay unit (with battery) - what a surprise
and I ordered it

So I will have two little guys to test (the Xminilab and the DSO112) and one big one (Rigol)

I will use the Rigol DS1074z to evaluate the Xminilab and DSO112

If anyone has something that they want me to test for on the Xminilab or DOS112  ( I have low skills) let me know.  If some sort of advance test, you would have to teach me how to do the test.

There are a lot of reviews on the DSO112 at the Aliexpress web page, under reviews.

PLEASE PLEASE   this is not a comparison between a Rigol and DSO112.   I just want to know what a DSO112 can do using a Rigol.   I know the DSO112 is a piece of poop compared to a Rigol.  ($48  vs $374)

Edit:  The original post went crazy on the links and got many many copies of the URLs so I took out the ones linked to ebay and Aliexpress --  whew hard to clean up the links and language.   I think using inappropriate 4 letter words causes links to go crazy.  (nice programming touch  :) )
thanks

Rigol.   I know the DSO112 is a piece of shit compared to a Rigol.  ($48  vs $374)

Yes but does a $399 Rigol have logic analyzer capability? I would be very interested in how that works on these cheaper products. Specially in regards to trigger function which was a big disappointment on my Saleae.

ps. It might technically be ok to say shit on this particular forum but there are younger members and ladies that might be offended by the word shit. So in the interest of decorum we should maybe minimize use of the word shit in casual use. Shit is a very expressive word but if we say shit too often it may lose some impact. So the less we say shit maybe the better. The word shit even starts to sound weird if you say shit a lot. Personally I try not to say shit very much unless the word shit serves a purpose otherwise after a while it won't mean shit.

pps. Also saying shit a lot indicates lack of culture. I hate when people always say shit this or shit that.

Entirely agree - I think that sort of shit is unprofessional.

LOL. Looks like ez was totally pooped after all that.

All seriousness aside, it would be interesting to know about the LA trigger capabilities.

Can you tell me what to test for?

Here is a link to the Xminilab manual (44 pages), I can do some of those tests on all the units as a comparison.

Page 23 is a little over my head but I am willing to try something, if I can come up with a circuit to test.  I have an Arduino Uno board that maybe we could use.

Also the Rigol has some advance features (options) that has a trial time limit on them.  I was not expecting to get to them before the time limit was up but I am willing to try.  Here is the manual and if there is anything in it you want me to test for, let me know.  It will help me also.  Just remember the time limit and model of Rigol I have.  I get delivery on May 14, 2015.  I think the time limit 25 to 30 days but not sure.

A generic manual for all 1000 series, including the MSO (Not the one I ordered - I ordered the DS1054Z):

Rigol does not have any LA capability w/o additional hardware so that's not even in the game. The Saleae which was cheap ($8 banggood) an incredible deal for the money but very limited triggering and I hate needing to fire up Winders XP every time. So it would be nice to find what your finds can do. Read up here and google for an idea how those work. Any ability to start recording on some fixed starting condition would be an improvement.

The case remembers me the first DSOs that I saw around 1990... but those didn't have color and had like 250 kS/s or so... I thought the format was great :)

I looks like a very "hackable" unit, I mean for 49 $ ? not bad.

What do you mean by "hackable"?  I have been using it for several days and it is very "usable".
It makes a good breadboard scope - ie it can sit on the breadboard, but the only way I know to fasten it to the breadboard, is with rubber bands.
