Can't update firmware on ADS1102CAL
« on: Yesterday at 04:07:10 pm »
It seems I have an early revision of the Atten ADS1102CAL oscillocope, and no matter what I do, it refuses to upgrade it's firmware.

We all know this is a white label product, sold by many brands, but this one it funny: the software (and manual I got on CD) is completely unbranded! See the splash screen when I turn it on. Hardware and software versions are quite early, I don't know if this has to do with firmware upgrade dificulty.

I did the usual: copy .ADS file to a pendrive, went to utility menu and Firmware Update option. After hitting Single button, it shows the picture attached: can't find update file.

I tried two pendrives, (one is 256Mb, and the other, 4Gb), tried formatting as FAT and FAT32, with cluster sizes of 4k and 8k, none of that worked. I also tried shortening the ADS file name. Didn't work too.

I wonder if the file name must follow an specific rule, I don't know. The file I'm using has this name: ATTEN_ADS1000CAL_V100R003B01D01P31R16_3.01.01.31R16

Does anybody know how to the upgrade, please?

Thanks!

Eduardo

In some early Siglent DSO's, of which I think this is one, the FW update filename had to be a max of 8 digits so:
########.ADS should install.

Thanks for replying, tautech! But I just tried, and it didn't work either. I think it's probably trying to find an update file with a specific name, but I have no idea what it may be. I also can confirm the scope can access the pendrive correctly, because I can save the screen image to it, and I can open it on my computer.

If you have any other idea, I'm all ears, many thanks.

Just looked at my Atten folder....yes sold just a few before getting hooked up with Siglent.
I have just 1 FW version for ADS1102CAL but this one a Plus version....from 2014

The correct firmware file extension is ########.up
Try that.

Thanks again! But still no luck.. :(

I renamed the file as ADS1000.up. Would you mind telling me the complete filename for the FW you have?

And while talking about that: would you happen to have the latest Atten ADS1000C, or Siglent SDS1000C firmware, please? That's because I also have an ADS1000C scope, that I would love to upgrade the firmware too, but I can't find its firmware anywhere.. That would be great if you could help me with this too, tautech!

Thank you once again!

No promises but I'll have a look.....not much left for these now ~15yr old scopes....

Nope, nothing else.

But search the forum for Atten threads and some firmware might be attached in those threads.

Thank you for the help once again. Regarding the ADS1102CAL, I just came across this thread, someone had the same exct problem I have, and Atten China sent him the correct FW: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/firmware-update-for-atten-ads1102cal-oscilloscope/msg534693/#msg534693

But it's many years ago, I doubt I will have the same luck, but I'll try contacting them.

Regarding the older ADS1000C / SDS1000C, thank you, I'll try finding it in the forums. But it's very confusing, there is the SDS1000C, and SDS1000D, both look identical, I don't know which one is compatible. Anyway, I'll keep hunting, thanks!

Earliest versions were 5" displays IIRC and when the L was added it signified the 7" display.

In Siglent models there were CNL and CML models and their only difference was memory depth, 40 kPts vs 2 MPts and a common hack was to populate the missing memory for a CNL to become a CML.  >:D

Way way back in threads this was discussed.

Indeed, I have been reading many old threads, and I'm well aware of these differences. But I'm really out of luck with both of these scopes, regarding firmware updating:

ADS1022C: this one currently has a 2.x firmware, but I know the latest is much improved, but I can't find if anywhere. The best would be to find SDS1000C latest firmware, since it seems Siglent has much more care about their products.

ADS1102CAL: I already got some FWs from forum posts, but none work on my scope, which is an early version. I could even find a bin dump from the actual chip, that I could try flashing using JTAG, but I think that would brick my old ADS1102CAL, since it's hardware version is 2.00. I never found any mention to this version online, all info I could find is about later versions. I already have the SDS1000CNL FW, hoping I could some day flash it, but I can't do that until I figure out which FW update I need to move my scope from the ancient firmware it currently has.

So, I'm stuck. I'll keep using them the way they are, as long as I can, many thanks again!

Eduardo
