Ebay 50$ spectrum Analyser with Tracking gen.
« on: August 19, 2019, 08:45:32 pm »
I think there is no forum thread about this, so here it is. I hope link works for your location.

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Simple-Spectrum-Analyser-D6-With-Trace-Generator-Tracking-Source-T-G-V2-032/113766559309

I was just wondering is this of any use, and how they were to achieve this with such a little circuitry.

Please check out my last 3 blog entries at https://vma-satellite.blogspot.com/:

https://vma-satellite.blogspot.com/2019/08/vma-simple-spectrum-analyser-for.html
https://vma-satellite.blogspot.com/2019/08/error-mapping-smanwtd6ltdz-devices.html
https://vma-satellite.blogspot.com/2019/09/checking-out-performance-of-siglent.html

It is actually quite impressive what can be done with the SMA/NWT (by BG7TBL and available at eBay), the D6 (available at AliExpress) and (not so much) the LTDZ (available at Banggood).

The D6 and LTDZ are impressive for the fact that they feature two ADF4351, which means synchronous RX/TX.

The SMA only has one ADF4351 so it does assynchronous RX/TX - as a result it is not possible to use a TG like functionality.

Vitor

Hi Vitor,

I read your blogposts about D6 and the other cheap spectrum analyzers. Regarding your last comparison between Siglent SSA3000X and D6: Which modifications did you perform on your D6? In another blogpost you mentioned some modification by David Alloza, but for me it is hard to find out, which of the many modifications really make sense, since there are several updates. Do you have a list of modifications to the D6 which are useful?

Thank you.

Best regards
Andreas

I have not modified mine at all. The graphs I posted in my blog are of the original unit.

I don't know what individual mods should be done, I just read the linked post and now a fellow user that successfully modified his unit.

The reason I did not apply the mod on my unit:

1) I did not want to have a unit outputting wrong results -> this is now fixed by the latest release of my software
2) I wanted to have an original device for R&D of my software
3) Some components required don't seem easy to obtain for me (SMD resistors and capacitors)

Vitor
