I apologize if this post is in the wrong place, or has been asked before. I did search the blog without any luck.

I acquired a Fluke 8840A (according to the eBay seller) which works perfectly but is missing its display window.
How can I find out if it is an 8840A or actually an 8842A? From what I can see they look identical except for the logo on the display window?

I do hope someone can help me as I'm trying to acquire a display window for this amazing meter.

No, they don't. It's actually not even hard to spot the difference:

Compare the two photos  MadTux linked to and check the location of the AUTO button on the front panel.

I got a 8840 that was missing the window and the seller said the A.C. function gave an error so I paid $16 for it. The A.C. was an uninstalled option. I cut a window out of thin colored Lexan and held it in place with double sided tape.
