Hi!
Didn't find any threads dedicated to this - can anyone confirm, that this seller
http://www.ebay.de/usr/*bessstdealsss* (http://www.ebay.de/usr/*bessstdealsss*)
rsp. this offer
http://www.ebay.de/itm/142263414548 (http://www.ebay.de/itm/142263414548)
are serious? I ordered this one, when the availability status was "1 left" and then got a note, that there is a backlog and wjhether I still wanna wait. By any chance any experiences with that seller?
Thanks & best regards
Axel
PS: Any "Dave Approved" Seal? :)

What are the differences between that ?

Color and a EEVBlog badge and YouTube support Dave when buying the blue one.
-
Aren't there also some tweaks to the firmware?
-
Official listing is here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EEVblog-Brymen-BM235-Multimeter-/222400551076 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/EEVblog-Brymen-BM235-Multimeter-/222400551076)
Bit strange you would buy it for 163 Euro, when dave has it for 110 EUR. Is the import tax that bad?
Maybe he will drop ship it to you via Dave.
-
Yep - there is import tax and vat - everything over 22€ (shipping included!!!) not shipped from within the EU will at least cost +19% vat and sometimes some import fees - all in all it avarages out at about 20% through some 40% depending on the good's classification, where the additional import fees for electronic parts and items are quite moderate ... complicated stuff ;-) so thats ((110 + shipping) * 1,19) + paying the customs guy for being randomly rude :-)
but for the sake of having the blue one...
btw - a speech feature, where the DMM might shout "unbelievable!" or "you musta be kindding me?!?!?" or "tadaaaa" etc, would be nice ;-)
----
just did the math - still less than 160... trying to get it there then - thanks for the hint :-)

Great - I found that offer, did the math, found it to be a better offer even considering tax and customs, and ordered it. That was at May 19th - today the seller eevblogstore cancelled the order, reason being the DMMs were out of stock. WTF? 11 days to find that out??? really? Pisses me off to be honest... At least I don't have to get through all the customs stuff, but it really is disappointing...

I bought it from Amazon, even cheaper then the original BM235

Only one left in stock though, if that number is to be trusted.
I honestly don't know how it can be so cheap, i have to assume that this automatic listing of the UK offer somehow circumvents import tax, but i got it, and i love it.
I am also quite sure it's the real deal, because it came in authentic looking "no bullshit packaging" ;)

They are NOT a approved seller. There are no approved sellers, only my Ebay, Amazon, and Web stores.
What this company is no doubt doing is ripping off products from amazon, relisting them on ebay, and drop shipping them.
There is zero amazon stock which is why you got the message.

I've tried to get those listings removed as they have stolen my images and text, but ebay don't care.

Yes, that one appears to be official. They're stocked by Amazon UK and sold to various European countries as well. We're in the EU (at least for the moment) so there's no import duty for goods traded with other EU countries. Import I assume would've been covered by either Dave or Amazon after sending the stock to the UK.

That is my amazon store. I didn't know there were any left in EU stock, I should have checked.
I ship to the UK Amazon warehouse and the product automatically gets listed on the German Amazon and some other countries. I don't know how the taxes etc work, Amazon handle all that.

Aren't there also some tweaks to the firmware?
I have been the driving force behind all the firmware changes. I turn over stock so quick that I don't sell outdated firmware models.
I cannot say what stock the other companies have, it could very well be older firmware stock.
I also do not know if they implemented the backlight fix for other sellers stock or if that's a special for me. Units seem to be built to order and are always two months lead time from order to delivery.

When do you think we'll see more DMMs at Amazon in the US?

Stock due to me mid June.
It takes an extra week to ship and process Amazon stock into their warehouse.

How about asking them for Beep during diode check function :) I'd sell my BM257S and but one of yours if they could do it

It's not the easy to add features because it's a masked ROM chip.
They also have very limited code space left.

Thanks, I had emailed Brymen a couple of days ago after I saw their updated website but hadn't had a reply yet. Amazingly enough just after you replied to my post I got an email back from Brymen explaining the masked ROM limitation.

...
After some back and forth with a different UK dealer I also found the very same offer on amazon.de and I think I just got said last in stock item... Now I am a happy hobbyist ;-) And btw. - as soon as I set up the new beauty all other meters here immediately turned green with jealousy as can be seen in attached picture ;-)

sucks - but in the end I've got the right one and the thing is worth the effort, if not just for the sake of simply owning it - would I ever have thought, that I eventlually would turn into kinda fanboy at the very age of 53? ;-)

This might have been discussed at different locations - so my apologies if so, but is there a way to keep the FW updated without too much hacking into the meter? Any accessible connectors inside to hook up a programmer of some kind?

Nope, it's a mask ROM processor. No way to update it.
Another reason why other dealers might have older stock. Brymen know to send me the latest firmware for my meters (which are built to order), but they may have a ton of stock of the previous firmware ROM chips, but I don't really know, it's just a possibility.

OK then - I've got revision E - should be fine with me :-) Thanks for the quick reply :-)
