Title: Experience with / Recommendation for Velleman LABPS3005SMU Power Supply
Post by: shaunakde on July 27, 2020, 04:57:32 pm
I came across this switching power supply (Velleman LABPS3005SMU) on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Switching-Mode-Power-Supply-Display/dp/B01M0EIJXS) (also on TEquipment.net) and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this particular supply.

Looking at the specs on their  official website  (https://www.vellemanstore.com/en/velleman-labsp3005smu-dc-laboratory-switching-mode-power-supply-0-30-vdc-0-5-amps-with-lcd-display) this is what I could find:

Input Voltage: 230 VAC 50 Hz
Output Voltage: 0-30 VDC adjustable max.
Output Current: 0-5 A adjustable max.
Ripple Voltage: 200 mVp-p
Dimensions: 85 × 160 × 205 mm
Weight: 1.62 kg
Fuse: T3.15

The ripple voltage seems to be in line (or slightly worse) then the RD6006 (https://bit.ly/3jUzSVA) for example, but I am not sure if these values are typical.

The reason I am in the market for a supply is that we won't have access to our local makespace anytime soon due to the pandemic, (and in any case I would like to start building up some basic test-equipment at home). Currently my choices are 1. A RD6006 from a US Aliexpress warehouse ($126 - case+supply+module) and 2. the LABPS3005SMU from Amazon/TEquipment ($60)

Any thoughts or alternate suggestions would be appreciated.

You should also look at the Korad KA3005... it's received a lot of attention on this forum.
