Hello, fellow enthusiasts!

I've had this Extech EX330 multimeter for a few years now. As a hobbyist I love to work at random times at night on my projects. One thing that I feel is incredibly obnoxious about this meter is the turn-off warning. It literally woke me up many, MANY times after working through the night. If you forget the multimeter on, it will do the loud beep twice. The first warning comes 18.5 minutes after leaving the meter idle. The second warning comes 1 minute after. Because the first warning takes so long, it's enough time to go to bed and be in light sleep already. It always wakes me up. Worse than that, I know the second beep is coming. This prevents me from just shrugging it off and returning to sleep. It feels much longer than a minute! Because of that, I lost my sleep quite a few times, taking several hours to recover.

Well, I really considered removing the buzzer. But I would lose the continuity beep, which is rather useful. So I'm wondering if any other poor soul in this forum has had the same issue. How did you deal with it? Is there a way to remove this beep intelligently? Or will I have to give up the continuity beep also? My research in the internet led me nowhere so far =/

Thanks!

I have a couple Chinese meters that beep far too loud and often. I stuffed a tiny wad of electrical tape in the piezo opening to shut them up. At least it's a reversable mod. And tunable to a degree to muffle the noise without total silence.

check the specs of the cpu or meter chip inside ....may help

or simply add an small miniature switch to cut it off for the night ??? or a reed switch,  you put a magnet on the meter side, it cut the buzzer sound ?    a friend of mine did this for long logging .

I don't think there is a way to disable just the beep, but you can disable the auto-off by holding down the mode button while turning the meter on and holding the button until function is selected. This might result in a dead battery instead, not sure which is better.

Crazy suggestion, I know, but hear me out:

Maybe turn off the meter before you go to sleep? I mean if this is happening often enough to cost you hours of sleep, I would think it foremost on your mind when you quit for the night, and you just turn it off.

I wonder how much power your meter is actually using when it's idle and if the Power-On reminder function is even worth bothering to implement?   I have an old Kelvin brand Chinese meter that I bought many years ago (I don't know who made it) and occasionally I forget to turn it off and I find it months later still turned on and the battery is still good.
