F87 error Fluke 87-v?
« on: August 17, 2018, 09:01:48 pm »
Hi there guys! Just made an account for this forum, been a lurker/watcher of the EEV blog. BUT I have a Fluke 87-V and I left it running while I was doing a min-max using that feature. I took it off the ranging feature and left it at my bench turns out it was on, but it turned off after 30 Minutes like it's supposed too. However now, every time I flip the dial on I see F87 and the high voltage warning on the side you usually get when measuring above 30V. Is this to change the battery? I've contacted fluke but I was hoping for some insight from you guys. Thank you!

That is the easiest to try.  Try a completely fresh 9V battery.

I know the first generation Fluke 87 has problems booting if the 9V battery is weak.

I see thank you! Should I be worried warranty wise or do Fluke not care if you change it yourself?

Changing the battery will NOT void your warranty.  Same goes for changing the fuses.

Found this: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/fluke-87v-adversely-affected-by-cool-temperatures/ Turns out, at least from what I've read the f87 is a normal startup message and my meter must have been in some mode OR I've been doing it all wrong haha.

Wait a minute?

I'm confused.  Are you saying the 87V gets stuck at the F87 screen?  Or are you asking if it shows the F87 during bootup as normal?

I thought you were saying your 87V is stuck at the F87 during boot.

Surely the owners manual should mention this if its a standard message?

That was my thinking,  I consulted the manual but it's not listed there so I did some more digging and someone on another forum said it could be an error for magnetic damage yet I haven't put my meter near any magnets except the magnet hang kit that came with it from fluke

Well in that case you should try a brand new battery and see if it still happens.
