Title: Faster Siglent SDM3055 DMM Firmware
Post by: Siglent America on September 24, 2015, 04:21:12 pm
Well, I am very happy to report that the new firmware for the Siglent SDM3055/SDM3055A DMM is out. We did some quick tests here in our US office and the difference in display update speed was like night and day.

The new version is
V100R001B01D01P15R1

It was not yet on the website this morning but should be up on Friday or early next week.

We noted the display update speed is considerably faster and the settling time is much better as well.

Also, the diode test threshold level is now adjustable plus other problems have been fixed.

I apologize for the sluggish response of these units up until now but I believe that most people will now be very happy with the meter.
Steve

Steve @ Siglent America kindly sent me this new 15R1 FW today. (14 Mb)

It still is not on the website, let's hope it's not far away for you all.

I can say the sreen update rate is much improved in my SDM3055.

There was no changelog, only the update, so we'll have to wait for the complete .rar package to see what changes were made.

Aw, c'mon now... You're teasing all of us SDM3055 owners! Can't wait!

D'oh, starting to get close to mid-week...in China, it's definitely mid-week.  Still crossing my fingers it'll show up on their site in the next day or so.

Looks like the new version (15R1) it's up at: http://www.siglentamerica.com/support_software_15 (http://www.siglentamerica.com/support_software_15)

I should get to take a look tonight.

I received my 3055 today.

I ran it with the stock v12 firmware for a while and then upgraded to v15R1.

Display update rate is much improved. Really liking this meter!

Haven't gotten back from traveling to try this. Any estimates on how much faster it makes the display update, particularly in "Slow" mode?

Just by observing with the naked eye, slow mode updates 5x/s. Before the update it was 1x/s, so a 5x increase in update speed.

If someone wants an exact number, then we need Siglent to tell us, or publish it in the data sheet. I guess another way to find it would be to probe around in the unit.

I'm quite happy with the display update rate with this new firmware. Thanks you, Siglent!

One thing I continue to struggle with, however, is that the startup time for this meter is still insanely long. Pretty much any time I'm looking to make a quick measurement on the bench, I'm usually reaching for some other meter that pretty much turns on instantly.

I realize this is a very old topic but can anyone confirm that with current firmware on a Siglent SDM3055 the diode voltage test setting is adjustable from 0-4V (not fixed at 2V)?  Thanks

---

Maybe the user manuals haven't been updated but they indicate some differences between the 3 Siglent DMM models - in some cases showing the 3045X is more similar to the 3065X and in other cases indicating the 3065X is the most fully featured for diode tests versus the other two models.

For example, the 3065X wording indicates that math and graph features are available for diode tests.  The 3055 and 3045X diode sections of the manuals are silent on these features – but maybe the math and graph features for diode testing are also also available on the 3055 and 3045X (maybe the manuals simply aren't fully documented)?

From old release notes:
https://siglentna.com/wp-content/uploads/dlm_uploads/2019/11/SDM3055-Firmware-Revise-History-and-Update-Instructions.pdf
2015/9/22 1.01.01.15R1
3. Add the diode threshold setting function.

I can get a unit out and check if required.

Thanks tautech,

Not urgent but if you or someone at some point can confirm the 0-4V variable diode setting feature is used in the 3055, and whether the 3055 has the same diode math and graph features as in the 3065X that might influence a purchase decision.  Thx

Or maybe a Siglent successor DMM series is just over the horizon that you can't talk about ....?   :)

Sure but later as things to do today.  :)
3065X doesn't offer lots over 3055, mostly faster PLC readings and higher accuracy whereas the basic functions all work the same.
Anyways, another member might check the diode test for you before I get a chance........

Nothing apparently as new model first appear here on the Chinese website:

Not heard anything so if there is anything coming it will be some months away.

With SDM3055....with latest FW.
Diode test, 2V default and 4V max, adjustable in 1mV steps.
Maths, YES but saves as .bmp in a USB stick screen capture......changed to .png in Paint:

Patient = 10A stud diode
