Defective Beeper on SDS800X-HD and SDS1000X-HD Scopes
« on: September 07, 2026, 12:34:20 am »
I know most scope users do not like to hear the Beeper on scopes when pressing menu selections or buttons.  But there are some that do.  So far, I have encountered two Siglent scopes, one from the SDS800X-HD series and one from the SDS1000X-HD series where the internal Beeper does not function, i.e. you cannot hear it, even though it's turned on in the System setup menu.  Dave from EEV Blog has a Youtube video where he's testing the interface and says he can clearly hear it and he's not anywhere near the scope (an SDS1000X-HD scope).  So has anyone had the same experience?  Thanks!

I'm told that Siglent explicitly fixed a firmware bug on both families where, with Beep enabled, the physical buttons would beep only until the first movement of any encoder.

The SDS800X HD fix appears in firmware V1.1.6.2, and the SDS1000X HD release notes describe the same fault.

Hope this helps.

Which FW version ?

The beeper is just to confirm a user input for most user interaction but not all.
Eg, all the button inputs beep to confirm an input however encoder adjustments (V/div, s/div) don't return input adjustment confirmation.....we can clearly see these inputs in the channel and timebase tabs.

Thanks CJSouthern:  I have the latest firmware update for the SDS1000x-HD series which is 1.1.6.7.

The beeper still produces no sound whatsoever.

But thanks for your input.

Thanks Tautech:

The latest version which is 1.1.6.7.

The user manual says nothing about when and under what conditions the beeper functions.  So like every other scope I've tried that has a beeper that can be turned on/off I presumed it functions when you click a button or menu selection.  But on 3 scopes so far, the beeper does not sound at all: 2 SDS1104X-HD scopes and 1 SDS804X-HD.  I even contacted Siglent main headquarters tech support and specifically asked under what conditions the beeper should sound, asking about menu selections, and button presses, and the reply emphatically states I should hear the beeper on all menu and button presses and it should be plainly heard.  I have to presume that reply is authoritative since it's the headquarters tech support stating it.  So it would seem there is a hardware or firmware issue that is going under the radar since I doubt most engineers could care less about a Beeper not working.

Thanks Tautech:

Which is for SDS1000X HD and I have this as yet unreleased version for SDS800X HD also.
Beeper works as it should for both models.

Very unusual.
The Beep is really just a click and not loud at all however in the models I have here it is fully responsive to the beeper ON and OFF settings.

Your member flag identifies you as in the USA......NA branch is certainly not HQ, they are in Shenzhen however NA branch should know their stuff well enough to advise you.

As I've said the beeper is not loud and in a noisy environment might not be plainly heard.
On the chance you have missed it, the beeper setting is visible in the attached screenshot.

I wonder if some other obscure setting is preventing the beeper as audible ?
Try a Default setting then check the beeper setting state and function.

All that said, what exactly do you expect from the beeper ?

It does not beep but makes a click noise, same as it would on a smartphone.
Maybe that is the confusion..

Thanks to all that responded to the Beeper issue:

I should have mentioned that in my previous post, I mentioned contacting tech support in China, actually I did contact tech support in Schenzen (headquarters) who provided a confirmation of items for when the "beeper" should be heard and it should be loud enough to be plainly heard on the bench when pressing buttons, touching the screen.

To Sorama: No hearing problem, I have my hearing checked every 6 months, and it's ok, thank goodness.

To: 2N3055:  Yes, I am expecting a clicking sound.

I of course did a Default setting and still heard nothing.  Upgrading the firmware to the latest (1.1.6.7) for the 1000X-HD series also seemed to make no difference.

To my surprise I did the following:

Looking at the front of the scope, I put my head and ear to the left-side airflow vents, and sure enough I could hear a clicking every time but it is barely audible, and if I moved my head in a certain position, the clicking could not be heard, move it back to a different position and the click could be heard; It clicks as I expected, on touching the screen, pressing buttons, or making menu selections.

So the problem is no longer that the "the beeper doesn't work" but rather the volume level is so far down that it cannot be heard.  I even had a few associates see if they could hear the beeper and they could not.

The question becomes would it be worth it to somehow amplify the existing beeper or replace what seems to be a faulty beeper.  Of course, I could send it back to the distributor for a replacement unit (I only have it now for 2 days), but I suspect that after having the same issue with 3 scopes so far, that even a replacement could result in the same issue.  In fact, I asked Siglent North America (I'm in the US) tech support about it and they said even a replacement is no guarantee (!) that the beeper will be any different(!).  So much for quality control.  Yeah, the beeper clicks, but unless you put your ear and head right at the left of the scopes air vents, it's inaudible in a totally noise-free room.

Any further comments or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for all the input.
