Fixing duplicate Ethernet MAC address in siglent equipment
« on: December 30, 2022, 12:11:45 pm »
I received a siglent DMM today, after installing I noticed I got the IP address from a siglent signal generator.
Turns out these devices both have the same mac address, so my router hands out the same ip to them.
I tried searching if I can change it but so far no luck, I can give on a fixed ip, but I strongly prefer to have it centrally managed.

Does anybody know if siglent has a (hidden) command to change the mac address?

(DMM is the SDM3065X)

:palm: for Siglent! Yes you can assign it a fixed IP but if both the DMM and the signal generator are powered your switch will get very confused, they normally maintain a table which MAC address is on what port. I highly doubt that you can change it yourself and personally I would send it back to have it swapped, hoping that you don't receive one with the same problem.

A fixed IP won't work because the MAC address is what is used to direct traffic on a local network. Your only option is to return the DMM for a replacement. Make clear to the supplier that this particular DMM can not be used on your network and that you will need a different one.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Yeah, but what are the odds that a different meter doesn't have the same mac-adress?

Same here.

Maybe it's possible to change it with the SCPI command:

:SYSTem:COMMunicate:LAN:MAC

I don't remember anyone trying...

Offically any piece of equipment with an ethernet interface should have the MAC address printed on the outside (on a sticker). So it should be easy to check by the supplier. Ofcourse there is always the possibility the manufacturing process at Siglent is somehow broken and all units are shipped with a factory default address. Easy to find it if the actual MAC address differs from what is printed on the sticker.
