Another continuity tester
« on: February 22, 2013, 05:40:38 am »
Just thought I mention, I purchased a cable tester a few years ago and finally decided to open it up today - http://www.altronics.com.au/index.asp?area=item&id=Q2021

As I was testing the continuity banana plug on the front the speed is astonishing. Total current draw is fairly high at 31mA but overall excellent speed unmeasurable by ear.

I will probably set it up some where on my bench and use it extensively for continuity for circuit measurement. I may modify it slightly to reduce voltage and current output so that I cant damage any circuitry, but overall very happy. Nice loud buzzer too.

I have a Behringer that's similar to that one.  I think yours tests a couple more connector types but I needed one that will send a test tone down a mic line.

Just for fun, here's a unique continuity tester from the 1920s:

It has a chrome case. It was designed to check continuity of fuses, lamps, motor windings, toasters, flat irons, vacuum machines, and anything else you can possibly get across the two contact bars on the face.
When continuity is detected the red dot on the needle moves out of the window on the meter. If the dot does not move the item under test is open. It's powered by a standard 1.5 V C battery.  It was sold by Testometer Laboratories, Chicago.

Last good hop is:

Very odd that, only seems to be your site affected.
