I currently have a fluke 189 is it worth it to upgrade to a 289?
I like to save the values for evidence after a COC ( certificate of compliance )

I've been looking at the 289 too, love its display!
How is the battery performance in these?

with the black/purple 2500mah eneloops they perform good, i would say better than the original specs. if you prefer rechargable go with these if not get lithium cells for them those last even longer

The 289 has 100 hours of normal use or 200 hours of logging use battery life
The 189 have only 72 hours battery life

I have a 189 and a 287.
I would say that you'll find that the 289 will be more intuitive, but slower (more button presses - sometimes *many* more). Once you're used to the 189, it's faster to use.
Also, the 189 display has better contrast and is easier to read from wider angles. I find that you need to use the backlight more on the 287 to help with legibility, which offsets the improvement in battery life that the 28x models bring over the 18x series.
I bought my 189 new some 9 or 10 years back, and like it a lot. The 287 came second-hand at a price I couldn't resist. I would be happy with either, but if the 189 already does everything you need, it's not really worth the outlay IMHO.

I have an 89-IV, which as far as I can tell is virtually identical to the 189, and a 289.
The 289 is the obvious choice for logging. The on screen prompts and superior display capabilities make it easy to set up, and the ability to plot a chart of the logged data is extremely useful.
On the other hand, the 89-IV has better display contrast and is, I think, easier to pick up and simply use as an 'ordinary' multimeter. It's the one I use whenever I don't want to log anything. It lives in a desk drawer under my lab bench and is always on hand, whereas the 289 is stored in a cupboard and only gets used once a month or so.

The thing is I do need to buy a new tester for work or I can upgrade my privet after work hours 189

I have 289 and 189. Except logging feature is for me favourite 189. The boot of 289 takes some time, it is also bigger than 189.
For loggng I prefer bench top DMM rather than 189/289.

I bought my 289 used on eBay for 300 usd. It hasn't a mark or scratch on it and I love it. Durable meter too

I have both and I prefer the 189 for most uses.
The 189 turns on faster, the display has much better contrast and it has longer battery life.
For some uses the 289 do have an advantage, due to the larger graphical display. It can show multiple values (Like: min, max, average and actual value at the same time) and it can show curves.

gotta share this thread. 28X series seems to have some quality issues.
