I've got a pretty old Fluke 289 (calibration date 4/30/08) and it says its firmware is 1.10 / V0.88. It also has a SN of 9673xxxx.
This doesn't make a lot of sense:
https://www.fluke.com/en-us/support/software-downloads/fluke-287-and-289-multimeter-firmware-update (https://www.fluke.com/en-us/support/software-downloads/fluke-287-and-289-multimeter-firmware-update)
They are talking about 42830001 shipping with firmware 1.41.
Then they mention : Owners of Fluke 289 multimeters with serial number 42830000 or LOWER can update to firmware version 1.16. These multimeters are NOT upgradable to any firmware higher than 1.16.
I don't even see a link for newer firmware, but part of me doubts my unit could handle it even though the SN is not lower than 42830000.

I've observed discontinuities in Fluke serial numbers on at least one other product, so you might want to ask Fluke directly and see if they can explain. I'm not sure a firmware upgrade really gets you anything in this case.

It is always best to talk to the manufacturer.
As far as I know, your meter will support Firmware version 1.16 and not the newer 1.41. The newer firmware is for their newer board revision they did somewhere in mid/late 2018 and later ones.

That is sort of what I was figuring too; thanks; I'll check with Fluke and see what they say.

Fluke says my serial number was from before it rolled over! Upgrade to 1.16.

Qasim, thank you, this info is useful for me, please, do you have the link to the source?

They didn't, but I didn't ask. The firmware update page link would suggest that they are different hardware versions and that is the reason.

Hi Trader, you are welcome. I'm sorry, I don't have any certified source. It is my own assumption.
I sent in my own 289 in Feb., 2018 and Fluke replaced the main board but with the same board ID 3. In Feb., 2019, I read a forum post by a member mr.fabe (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/fluke-189-with-leaking-surface-mount-coin-cell/msg2180516/#msg2180516 (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/fluke-189-with-leaking-surface-mount-coin-cell/msg2180516/#msg2180516)) that he received his meter with a replaced main board from Fluke with a newer board revision bearing board ID 5 and 1.41 firmware. From that I conclude that Fluke did a new revision in mid/late 2018.

I think they had "the super capacitor problem too"

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but if you want the download links for Fluke Firmware, just google Fluke Firmware Update and click on any number of Fluke links.
