Fluke 8808A button pressure?
« on: December 03, 2021, 05:55:11 pm »
I have two bench multimeters, the Fluke 8808A and the HP/Agilent 34401A.  Currently I *much* prefer the 34401A and it's because the 8808A's buttons take a lot more physical pressure than I expect, meaning I sometimes have to press the buttons multiple times before they register. Is this a common experience with the 8808A or does it sound like I just need to clean the pads?

maybe you could clean the rubber pads and or pcb pads with ipa,  do not use something stronger, it may damadge the pads conductivity ?  its like a carbon surface

If not  try to find some spare pads ??

Is the problem uniform across the buttons and fairly repeatable?  Or is it just some (perhaps many but not all) buttons and is the reaction more random?  Is the 8808A in mint condition or is it a bit beat?

I don't have any experience with the 8808A specifically, but I've seen a few 8846A models with button issues that turned out to be a physical problem in the circuit board under the FPGA somewhere.   :o
A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.
