Fluke DTX 1800 Repair help / Schematics
« on: May 31, 2017, 10:25:17 pm »
One half My Fluke DTX 1800 set (smart remote part) has died. Powers on, but then LEDs just randomly blink, seemingly under the influence of the presence of my hand near the meter. I'm thinking some GPIO pins are undefined/high impedance whilst CPU is not yet booted??

So far I have found one supply rail ( coming off an LT1763)reading near short to ground (0R4).

Main PCB is identical in both main and remote units, so I can compare any measurement.

This is an insanely dense/multilayered PCB and I think it will be tough to locate all components powered off this rail. Any tips to locate the component that is shorting the rail. Short of putting a bench supply on it and watching for smoke?
I've already eliminated the LDO itself and some tants that hang off the rail.
Maybe someone has a schematic /service manual??

These are my go to sites for Service Manuals/Schematics when I can't find it with a simple google search:

http://artekmanuals.com/manuals/other-manuals/
http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/fluke/

I checked for DTX 1800 and there isn't one. It looks like a somewhat recent device so I doubt you'll find a schematic for it. I've been looking for a Fluke 8845/8846 service manual and I can't find it either.

Thanks for the resource.
Unit is not that recent, 2001 design (at least according to PCB markings), 2008 manufacture.

Some more info..
It seems that the rail in question feeds the 1.8V? Core of the main FPGA.  There's maybe half a dozen decoupling caps that are connected to it under the FPGA. Pulling the 256 ball FPGA is not something I want to get into so I'd like to rule out everything else on that rail first.

Hello and sorry for resurfacing an old thread but there seems to be no information online about fluke testers.

I have a similar problem with dtx-1800 with the main unit screen pcb, the main pcbs seems to be identical but they are not.
Did you had any luck with your pursuit?

I can provide pictures of the pcbs.
