Title: Function Generator?
Post by: mc1822 on January 14, 2020, 09:32:11 pm
Can a function generator be used in place of an audio generator?  :-//

It depends on what you mean by "audio generator".

Please be more specific.

Yes.   :)

There is some overlap between function generators, audio generators, RF generators, and waveform generators.  That doesn't mean they're all interchangeable.

What requirements for frequency range, waveform shape, stability, spectral purity, power output, impedance, etc. do you have?

Audio generators tend to cover the audio spectrum with sine waves at least.  Function generators usually cover audio and significantly higher, usually with at least sine, square, and triangle. The total harmonic distortion of an audio generator may be quite low, often lower than a typical function generator, but check the specs.

Yes, indeed. I have used my HP 3325B for audio signals in the past. It makes very nice clean sine up to 20 MHz from the front panel. Very low THD, though a quality audio generator might be lower.
