Title: Getting Sigrok on MBP running OSX 10.12
Post by: Daque on June 06, 2017, 07:24:31 pm
 |O
I keep getting errors trying to install it  most like this:

$ git clone git://sigrok.org/sigrok-util
Cloning into 'sigrok-util'...
fatal: unable to connect to sigrok.org:
sigrok.org[0: 88.99.77.186]: errno=Operation timed out
sigrok.org[1: 2a01:4f8:10a:8e::7369:6772:6f6b]: errno=No route to host

I can load the sigrok.org page in my web browser with out issue.

I have tried 3 ways to install it all fail. Using instructions https://sigrok.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X i have tried using a script under Homebrew, Building using Homebrew and even just trying to get the CLI version fails ($ brew install sigrok-cli). Anyone get it to install successfully on 10.12? Googling sigrok install osx didn't turn up anything I found useful.

I'm at work could the company VPN be the issue?

I just tried this on my MBP and it worked correctly:

Code: [Select]
git clone git://sigrok.org/sigrok-util
Cloning into 'sigrok-util'...
remote: Counting objects: 1778, done.
remote: Compressing objects: 100% (1683/1683), done.
remote: Total 1778 (delta 1087), reused 151 (delta 88)
Receiving objects: 100% (1778/1778), 274.76 KiB | 184.00 KiB/s, done.
Resolving deltas: 100% (1087/1087), done.

Perhaps the company is blocking the port range used by the git protocol - you might be able to figure out a way of getting it over http protocol instead.

Thanks. I just thought of the company blocking it while I was typing the question. I'll just take it home to night and try it there.

They got kinda picky here about what comes in on the VPN since we got hit with the  2nd ransomware :palm:

They came in via email but hey don't let the facts get in they way a good plan.

I got it to install using homebrew at home. Thanks again for trying it. It looks like you just need to run pulseview from a terminal window. I played around with using my DS1054z and think I have a pretty good idea of what's going on now.  I'm hoping it's easier to view and decode 6 I2C messages spread over 30 seconds with sigrok and a $6 logic analyzer.  A whole lot of scrolling with the scope just to find the 2-6 bytes typical of a message.

The data sheet for the chip is from 1980 I think (edit my bad chip is from 2000) and it had me confused for a bit as it had what I guess was an old style of using addresses. Address 80 was write and 81 read (maybe the other way) instead of address 40 with a r/w bit as the scope decoded  it.
