Agilent DSOX 2000 Aliasing
« on: December 17, 2014, 12:42:25 am »
I discovered a way to get my Agilent DSOX 2022A to alias on a 10 MHz signal.  I made a short video showing the effect.  This only happens when the scope in in FFT mode, so I am wondering if this is a bug, or inherent in getting FFT to work.

@EEVBLOG - Dave, maybe you could do an EEVBlab on whether your DSOX 3000 series scope shows the same behavior.  I would also be interested in your opinion as to whether this is a bug, or a necessary artifact to create the FFT display.

@W2AEW - Alan, do the TEK scopes do this as well?

Here is a link to the YouTube video.

The Agilent scopes do random decimation to reduce the possibility of aliasing.  However, it turns it off while doing FFT and some of the other math functions so that they operate normally without this added noise.

It's been discussed on Agilent/Keysight's forum:

(which then refers back to some posts here on the eevblog).

Thanks Mark.  I should have guessed that I would not be the first to find this...
