Good in circuit ESR meter not too pricey :) advice please.
« on: April 16, 2020, 12:00:47 am »
Need something to test caps preferably in circuit though not a deal breaker.

Mainly low voltage stuff in old 8bit computers. Though would like to test some high voltage ones that are in a TV I’m trying to repair.

Seen some like this:

Just need to know if a cap is bad not how bad it is.

Hi,

The first one LCR-TC1 will not read them in circuit.

The MESR-100 will read them in circuit.

If you want to build your own, take a look at this thread:

I don't have one yet, but I also have been looking for a cheap in-circuit LCR meter and I came across this Mastech MS8911:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/MASTECH-MS8911-Smart-SMD-Tester-Auto-Range-Auto-Scanning-6000-counts-SMD-Tester/223328356461
http://mastech-group.com/products.php?cate=104&PNo=78#_

But that is for SMD components and maximum test frequency is 10kHz. The MESR-100 looks interesting, though.

Bought the Mesr-100. See how it goes. One thought if there are more than one cap in parallel how does it test the one cap in the circuit?

It doesn't, it tests them both in parallel. If you want to test them individually you have to remove them from the circuit.

no esr meter can test caps in parallel, it sees the caps a one single cap.
