Good tester/component tester for repair shop
(1/1)
reyntjensm:
I have been working at a repair shop for a while know. We specialize in industrial equipment so we receive a PCB from an industrial machine without any schematics or information about the issue. We try to check all the components on the PCB with different testers like VI-plot on a scope or with the Peak Electronics testers like the DCA75, SCR100 and ESR70 for the caps.

At this point i want to start my own business, i already have a scope with VI-plot capabilities but i don't have the Peak testers. I would like to buy all the same testers as my boss had but this would cost me 500eu+. The results from the Peak testers are good but i don't like the workflow with having 4 different testers in the same case etc. I would prefer one tester for all the test's i would like to do. Any suggestions?

A set of quality Smart Tweezers, LCR and ESR measurements all in one hand.
Shannon's from HK would be a good choice although he has some current issues with tips being too fine and not standing up to 'in circuit' work.

Thanks! I already forgot about those tweezers but it's indeed a good alternative for the ESR and LCR measurement. I will do some more research on this topic.
But still it's not suitable for component testing like mosfets/transistors.

To a point you are correct however just using Diode test will often find a failed transistor after which any cheap Hfe tester will prove if a part meets specs or not.
