GWInstek GPP-4323 USB-Drive Problem
« on: July 07, 2021, 08:13:37 pm »
Greetings!

I recently did a big jump from a very simple 1.5-15V PSU to the GPP-4323 and all is well. I know my way round test gear since I had access to some good stuff at uni and working in IT, I hope to have a good understanding of computers.

Now the problem as hinted at in the title:
Whatever USB-Drive I plug in (FAT32 and 16Gig or less), the beast does not write anything except for empty files to it.
So far, I tried everything from marketing gift 512MB, years old trusty SanDisk to brand new Samsung. No luck.  :-BROKE

I contacted the retailer and can send it back to get refunded. A nice way out as a last resort, but I would really like to keep this unit.

GWInstek has not yet replied (has only been a day).

About my Problem Supply:
Firmware Version 1.17
HW Version: B
Boot Version: 1.02

Any help or advice is very appreciated!

Format in Windows, Fat32, 4kB sectors and try again... If you already did I don't know.

4kB sectors
Sector size is one thing I have not tried, thanks for the tip.

Will report back when I find time to test.

You mentioned you have software version 1.17. Where did you get that version, the gwinstek site only has version 1.16?

Did some tests (see table below) with Sector size.
Somewhat of a diva, this power supply...

Explanation:
% means unsupported by USB-Drive
Error - Got a message from the PSU
Soft/Hard Lock - All user Input "disabled", will explore CC/CV/OVP/OCP in the future
Success - It worked as intended

Tested Gear:
  • SanDisk CruzerBlade (USB2, 16 Gig) did not work ever.
  • SanDisk Ultra (USB3.0, 16Gig) worked every time.
  • Generic Marketing Gift (USB2, 2Gig) either got an Error or Locked up the entire PSU until removing it. After removal, the PSU returned to normal operation.
  • CN-Memory (USB2, 8Gig) was all over the place.
  • uSD (Generic micro SD Card in Adapter, 4Gig)

I am just glad I found at least one USB-Drive that works. Unit is a keeper now!

Came with that version.

Anyone has an idea about the difference between hardware version A and B?
Mine is 'A' (although I did buy it begin this year)

My impression is you have to get lucky with what you get, GW-instek support is slow and barely knows what they are doing. (And they see no problem in charging you 200 euro for shipment to Taiwan during warranty, the unit cost 500 euro  :palm:)
If you get an 'A' versions I would advice to send it back immediately ('changed my mind') because I wouldn't be surprised if it is the reason of my firmware upgrade problems. That they excuse as: it's ok it will most likely keep working fine anyway. (that like if a rope breaks and they say sure but there are still 3 other ropes holding, everything works as planned!)

Do we have any new information on the differences between Hardware version A and version B?  I see that the USB version has been discontinued (as far as I can tell).  But there are also two other variations ( the LAN only and the GPIB + LAN option).

Could any GPP 4323 owners can share which hardware version they have?
