The big power resistor resistor burning out was also the cause of death for my blue face Eico 377. Eico used a 10K 10W resistor (R15), I replaced mine with 2 20K 10W in parallel.

Even as I worked on it the first time I knew it couldnt be good.  the heat cycles for that resistor meant a certain end.  Granted, it did last 60 years, so theres that.
