Feeltech FY3200 grounding question
« on: March 01, 2019, 08:59:33 am »
Hi,

Apologise for the separate thread about this and appreciate there lots on here about this, I just wanted some clarification

Is it ok the fit an IEC panel socket and run a ground cable to the BNC`s to eliminate the AC leakage issue ,  as this seems an easy fix.

Will this still be ok to use with my oscillorscope, looking for the easiest safest fix please

thanks
Gary

Yes, that is the easiest fix. I did exactly this on my FY3200.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

I'd do the mod just to be sure. 9V is enough to damage a sensitive device.

I have done the mod, im seeing 1.5 volts now, if you take into account the parallel earthing paths etc and interference in my house im guessing that this is an ok value?

and I have the fy2200SP Model according to the sticker on the bottom

would you agree?

Out of curiosity I re-checked out the earth potentials between my modified FY3200S, my DS1054, home built PSU and found it to be 0v.  Checking out my 3165 frequency counter, no mods, to the scope and my homebuilt PSU I did find a few ac millivolts difference in the earth potential.  All this equipment is fed from a common 13A extender block.  Are you measuring your earth connection from a common feed point which in my case is the mains socket feeding the extender block?   If not it may explain the 1.5v reading you have.
