BTO, I think you should mentioned somewhere that the network setup must be as simple as possible, with all default settings - because those 3 or 4 times you said this was certainly not enough for me !
))
From the very beginning I took a small router from my home network to connect just one PC and the scope. but the router still had some extra settings in it. Even if everything looked fine and the ping was working, I was getting that error. After I did the router factory reset, everything worked from the very first attempt ! The key question from you was "why I'm getting that strange IP address" - after that I decided to reset the router.
Thank you VERY much !
BTO, I think you should mentioned somewhere that the network setup must be as simple as possible
I have already done that
on Page 4 "Step 4. "
Entitled "SETTING UP THE NETWORK"
I stated
- There needs to be 3 basic components to your network
- Your P.C.
- Your Router
- Your Rigol MSO5000
Now this implies that your network needs to be very simple, But in case it wasn't clear. this line is followed by a line in BIG RED LETTERS that reads
"DO NOT GET CREATIVE, OTHERS HAVE AND IT HAS FAILED"
Followed by
"The MSO5000 should be connected to your router via Ethernet Cable and your P.C. should be connected to your router via Ethernet Cable.. Like this"
follow by a diagram
it's as simple as simple can be.
Now you need to also understand there are many other scenario's
Examples :
1 . Your router that you pulled from your garage or a box could have previously been used as a Wireless Bridge and thus is still in Bridge mode and you think it doesn't work
2. DHCP could be switched off for whatever reason
3. it could be completely functional but configured to not accept pings and to not respond to ping or ICMP Requests
For this reason, i didn't bother telling people to reset their routers
I WOULD PREFER THAT I SEE THE PROBLEM FIRST BEFORE THEY JUST GO RESETTING THE ROUTER.
as resetting the router could cause more problems.
. After I did the router factory reset, everything worked from the very first attempt ! The key question from you was "why I'm getting that strange IP address" - after that I decided to reset the router.
OK , so now by that we can conclude that the routers settings were screwy and not compatible to the task you were trying to perform.
Basically what is advised here is a DNS Flush , Stack Reset, TCPIP Reset, release of I.P. Address, Renew I.P. Address Things like that .
However defaulting the router will take care of most of that , and if you knew how to do that stuff , you wouldn't be having a problem in the first place. so in this case..
Defaulting the router is the best option
CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE NOW A PROPERLY ACTIVATED SCOPE
A few speed humps but hey... You learned a bit about networking
In the future... if the I.P. Address of the Gateway is not one of these
10.0.0.1
10.1.1.1
192.68.0.1
192.168.1.1
then you should suspect that something is wrong and out of place. the last 2 octets should end with 0.1 or 1.1 for the gateway.
and if you pay attention to that it'll stick out like a sore thumb next time.. Just like it did for me.
OK so now
1. in the future you can get update files directly from Rigol and update them as normal, they will not affect your software options and they will not delete them.
2. Do a Sel Cal on your scope and Self Check and Self Test
3. DO A BACKUP AGAIN.... Since your scope is now activated, Backup this good version of your scope and keep it safe
Then if you like you can go through the DEEP DIVE Video files that i have put out for you guys and you can learn how to use your scope in depth.
Let me know if you need the link , but i think searching MSO5000 DEEP DIVE should get you there
Be Cool , Enjoy your scope
