SOLVED: My new Hantek DSO2D15: initial problems

I got my new toy today, a Hantek DSO2D15 as the upshot of another thread here (look for "Inexpen$ive scope recommendations). Works out of the box. But of course, as always, There Are Problems.

Two right off the bat:

• I can't get it to save a screenshot to a USB drive. Apparently this is an oft-cited problem.
  It wouldn't recognize my old 2GB (!!!) thumb drive no matter how I formatted it (tried both FAT16 & FAT32). No go.
  It did recognize my multi-card reader with a SanDisk 32 GB card formatted FAT32, and it claimed to save a screenshot on it, but it lied: no file found.
  I tried both saving from the SAVE/RECALL menu and using the SAVE TO USB button (which I assume do the same thing).
• Software & firmware: I'm guessing/assuming this has the latest version on it, but I wanted to check.
  Problem is the "system info" function (under the Utility menu) gives the firmware revision. But if you check the Hantek web page for firmware downloads for this model, it gives the revision date but not any version #s. Aaaaargh.

I was disappointed looking at another thread here, Hantek DSO2x1x models: firmware updates and best use practices, because I couldn't find any firmware versions there; I was hoping for a list showing dates and versions. Looked online but didn't find that either; maybe it's out there somewhere?

Anyhow, hopefully small potatoes. (Is there any piece of test gear of this complexity that just works perfectly out of the box? Yeah, remind me how if I spent ten X what I spent I'd get it ...)

Well, for less than 3x you could have had a Siglent SDS804X-HD which seems to work as expected OOTB (or the SDS802X-HD for less than 2x), and is 4x this scope in features, UI and performance.  For 10x, you probably don't want to know.

"You get what you pay for" does have some merit.

Actually, given the main thread on these scopes, it blows my mind that anyone would ever buy one.

Wellll, turns out by save-to-USB problem may be simpler, and not due to the Hantek after all:
The only devices I have that the 'scope recognizes are a couple SD cards, 32GB & 8GB in a card reader.
Problem is that they're both read-only, even though the write-protect switch isn't in the locked position.
Looking online I learned of a problem with these cards I didn't know about: they tend to go read-only as the memory cells degrade. I think that's what happened with both of them.
(But oddly enough they both work in my camera, a Fuji X100 which has no trouble saving pictures to them.)
Plus the partitions are maybe too big for the 'scope (I think it doesn't like anything >4GB).
So I'll buy a new USB device, maybe a small thumb drive and try it (use a partition manager to create a small-enough partition).
It'd be nice if the 'scope told you it couldn't write to the device, but I guess that's asking a lot these days.

That was the problem.
New USB thumb drive (32GB, repartitioned to 4GB) did the trick.
And no need to mess w/firmware or software.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Oh, and as to why I created a new thread?
Sure, there are lots of existing threads on the topic of Hantek DSOs.
That's the problem: there's a plethora of info here. Too much to wade through.
