I'm considering to purchase a HH portable oscilloscope in addition to a decent desktop one (for micros and general hobby stuff) and my choice is limited to the following makes and models:
- UNI-T utd1050cl (200 MSa/s, 50MHz bw, 3.5" TFT, 1-ch) 2 in one, no AWG
- Hantek 2d72 (250 MSa/s, 70MHz bw, 2.8" TFT, 2-ch), 3 in one
- OWON HDS272S (250 MSa/s, 70MHz bw, 3.5" TFT, 2-ch), 3 in one
(Maybe I could stretch to OWON HDS2102S but... read below)
You may wonder what a "black horse" like UNI-T utd1050cl is doing among the better specced Hantek and OWON. Besides being black the UNI-T is also an "old horse" of at least 10 years old design compared to the much newer Hantek and OWON devices. It's also noticeably more expensive compared to the latter two.
Well, to be honest I'm a UNI-T fan. Mind you, I'm not completely mesmerised by the well established red&black casing style but there is something in UNI-T devices that makes them marginally better than their competitors in the budget price range. They are generally of a better overall quality and are thoroughly designed.
What I don't like in Hantek: perhaps only a smaller 2.8" screen.
What I don't like in OWON/Hanmatek: shabby quality. In many YT teardows it appears that there are manually (re)soldered SMD components and those couple e-caps crudely soldered on top of the SMD components look dodgy as well. It seems to me OWON can't stop the novelty race in the process of pouring out half-baked products instead of fully completing them.
On the contrary I should admit UNI-T is being too slow and conservative in the scopes area while their m-meters are great for the price.
