Hantek 1833C LCR Calibration Memory

(1/1)

MLNL Laboratory:
My Hantek 1833C handheld LCR will go through the open and shorted lead calibration process fine, and zero out with it. But nothing I seem to do will allow it to retain the calibration into memory when it's powered off, it always powers back on showing 7-8 pF. The open lead calibration takes several minutes, which is annoying. I did update to the latest firmware, but no fix.  Has anyone else figured this bug out on these?

I don't know about the high-end lab grade LCR meters, but I've always heard that best practice with these inexpensive LCR meters is that you calibrate before every use or at least at the start of a day/session. There's so many environmental influences involved in making such sensitive measurements (between the meter, the DUT, and the ambient environment) that the calibration likely won't be valid at another time.

MLNL Laboratory:
Thanks for the reply. It's apparent that this particular LCR doesn't save the correction figures to its memory by design. It wouldn't be a huge deal to do it at every power on if it didn't take this meter an eternity to go through it. The other handheld LCR I used was an Applent AT-826, and it would save the corrections to memory as they didn't go off by much day to day. You could just re-calibrate if switching test fixtures/leads or re-calibrate the input at regular intervals. It's likely a price point thing.  -Mark KC3PKK-
