Title: Hantek DSO4084C vs Keysight DSO1152B
Post by: Mat219 on September 10, 2019, 08:07:53 am
Hi, which of these Oscilloscopes would you recommend for learning and designing circuits(mostly arduino and audio)?
Is the Keysight worth it? Also consider that the Keysight is used and about 50 or 60$ cheaper than the Hantek.

One thing that most newbie keeps forgetting is, what IF, the scope you freshly bought, put on your table, you feel excited playing with it whole day, then go to sleep and in the morning you found out that its broken, and yet, no warranty as its bought used.

Think again carefully that are you ready for such situation ?

Like Blueskull said, go for Rigol DS1054Z or SIGLENT SDS1104X-E...

I'd like to get the rigol but i only really have a budget of 450$ including shipping. Would you want a higher bandwidth over more channels for audio design and arduino?

If you are working with digital circuits / circuit design then definitely get 4 channels. Also look at the GW Instek GDS-1054B. It is often overlooked; it costs a little bit more (20 or 30 of euro) compared to the Rigol 1054Z but it is a much more modern and capable oscilloscope. If you can wait and save a bit more money then I think it will be worth it to buy a slightly more expensive oscilloscope. The Micsig TO1000 series is also worth considering if you don't mind having no physical knobs.

The bottom line is: the Rigol DS1054Z is a seriously outdated older model. People keep recommending it due to momentum; not because it is a good choice given the current crop of oscilloscopes. When the DS1054Z hit the market it was a great price for a 4 channel oscilloscope (if you could live with the bugs). Other manufacturers have caught up and provide much more modern oscilloscopes at the same price point so there is much more choice nowadays.

Keysight DSO1152B is too old and poor in functions. Never buy it unless it is very cheap. It is a slightly improved Rigol DS1052E.

Why not the Keysight 1000X instead of the 1000B? I was personally embarrassed to sell that 1000B - not because it was horrible, but because it wasn't even ours!

One similar scope by Agilent / Keysight had a similar strange bug. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMgZYKQKRNk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMgZYKQKRNk)

Oh yeah. That video of a bug posted here reminded me to ask: Which brand of oscilloscopes has the least bugs? I know it isn't quite according to the original question but the only thing that's been keeping me from buying a Hantek is that i've heard it's software is littered with bugs. Don't know if that's true as of today.

Ok. Thanks for your advice everyone. I went for Hantek at the end. Now i only hope it's not so buggy.
