Help Identifying SMD in DE-5000
« on: September 25, 2022, 05:08:02 am »
I obviously was careless because my DE-5000 has been dead-on reliable and I must not have discharged a capacitor before testing. My DE-5000 is now giving measurements that do not correlate with any other testers. Encouraged by this forum I opened it up looking for bad resistors. I found one that I thought was labeled "514" (which would be 510 kΩ) but was puzzled by the numbering. There is clearly a line beneath the "1".  I have attached a photo.  Sorry, a newbie question. Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I strongly guess that this is indeed a 510k resistor, you can check it with a meter and thin measure tips.
The chance that it´s defective is low, because of its high resistance.
Follow the path of the input sockets to the chipset, checking the parts in this way.
Hopefully there are somekind of overvoltage protection elements in there, otherwise.... :--
Good luck!

Thanks so much for the reply! Your suggestion makes total sense. Another slap the forehead moment for me.  Thanks much, I will follow up.

Have you seen this?
It was posted elsewhere for people who blew out the front-end by not discharging a cap.
I forget which component is typically taken out since I don't have a DE-5000.

I have not!! This is great, thanks so much!!! I had no idea this sort of information might be available.

I guess my earlier search was not as thorough as it should have been.

Also, once you fixed that resistor, then do a check up on the reference pin, or do calibration if needed too.

Recommenced to bookmark that particular post.

For others with Mastech MS-5308 (used the identical Cyrustek chip sets), based on above info, I also made this with close up shot in the below post.

Great, thanks, studying it now.
