MHS 5200A USB Driver
« on: December 19, 2016, 06:05:19 pm »
I just purchased an MHS 5200A from ebay.  it seems to be working fine in that it lights up properly, but I cannot get either of my PCs to 'connect' to it.  it does not show up as a USB device.  the MHS 5200A software does correctly identify the COM ports, which are COM1 on one PC and COM1 and COM5 on the other PC but none of these connect.  I'm stuck.  the next step is to connect this device to an oscilloscope to make sure it's working.  I prefer to use the software so I can save data on the generated signal.

any comments welcome, especially on:

1) how to connect via USB.
2) suggestions on checking to make sure the device works properly.
3) suggestions on how to capture the generated signal as a data file.

You need to install the CH340/CH341 driver, on the CD and also available at:

thanks.

i've tried that repeatedly but haven't been able to get it to work.  however, the URL you listed does contain a folder that is not on the CD.  this folder is named INSTALL and has a file named README.TXT which is not in English.  there is also an executable that is mostly not in English.  this executable lists COM1 - COM16 and also has settings for baud rate, bit length and other serial parameters.  there is also a button labeled SetusbMode.  i tried various combinations of button settings and presses, but still no connection to the device from the PC.

The right folder of the "zip" is the CH341 folder. The driver is there.  You should run the setup.exe from there, or when Windows ask for a driver point it to that folder.

Thanks.

there is no folder named CH341, but there is one named CH341.SER and another folder named INSTALL.  inside the CH341SER folder is a file named SETUP.EXE.  attached are screen prints.  the first one shows what happens when SETUP.EXE is run.  The second one shows the contents of the CH341SER\INSTALL folder in the zip file.  I've tried everything.  the first screen shot shows that something called WCH.CN is related to a USB with an address of CH340.  the third screen shot, on page 2 of the attachment, shows USB information from device manager.  there is no new USB port and none with an address of CH340.

i've tried this on two computers so far.  one runs W7x64 and the other runs Vista.
