Title: Help: Rigol DS1054Z PNG Screenshot corruption
Post by: cheeseburger on July 07, 2023, 09:04:30 am
Hello

I have a Rigol DS1104Z. Since the update to the latest firmware (v00.04.05.02.00) the screenshot to USB feature doesn't work properly anymore.

The last screenshot on the USB disk is always corrupted. But just the last one. This also happens when taking the snapshot and shutting the device after a few minutes. It looks like it doesn't write the file to a full finish.

Is this a firmware bug?

Upgrade to a newer firmware, IIRC v00.04.05.02.00 not the latest firmware.  From here, there are at least 2-3 newer ones.  https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/new-rigol-ds1054z-oscilloscope/msg4865735/#msg4865735 (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/new-rigol-ds1054z-oscilloscope/msg4865735/#msg4865735)

If not, you can downgrade to the last known working firmware you had before (for how to downgrade Rigol firmware, see the last paragraph written as code, the Rigol signed disk is attached there: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/new-rigol-ds1054z-oscilloscope/msg3613778/#msg3613778 (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/new-rigol-ds1054z-oscilloscope/msg3613778/#msg3613778) )

Another thing you may want to consider is to use LAN or USB to download the scope printscreen directly into a PC, without an USB pendrive.  That's way faster and easier.  Use something like DSremote, or any other program that can control the oscilloscope remotely (there are many ways to download from scope to PC directly).

Updated to 00.04.05.02.04, issue still present.

Looks like I will now use DSremote which is pretty awesome over LAN.

The last screenshot on the USB disk is always corrupted. But just the last one.

I haven't had this problem, but a simple work-around would be to take one more screenshot than you need (i.e. a throwaway one)

I would also try it using a different USB drive - just to rule out a defective USB drive.

From your description it sounds like you may be pulling the USB drive before the OS of the scope has flushed its cache to the USB drive.

Rigol might need to add a sync after saving files. Ledtester's suggestion above is a good one, but also make sure you aren't pulling it out as soon as it says it is done saving the screenshot.
