Help with Telequipment D83
« on: July 01, 2023, 06:23:56 am »
Hi guys, I've had a troll through the various threads but I can't find much help. I have a Telequipment D83 with a dual sweep S2A plugin, it was working fine but the trace has disappeared, I think the CRT has stopped working, if anyone can help me diagnose the problem I would be very appreciative. My S2A plugin is also missing the variable time div A and both delay time A and B time/div knobs if anyone knows where I can find replacement parts.
The photo isn't mine but it's the same unit with the knobs I'm looking for.
Thanks

I had a D83 some years back, nice CRO.
These were made when they were a UK division of Tektronix.

A look at the buttons pic shows you have the dual timebase engaged.
Press A only.
Then set Trigger mode to Auto.

Do you have manuals ?
At one time they were not available but now can be found online:

You missed this bit of the opening post: "The photo isn't mine".

Here's a link to the 3 I uploaded some years back including a list of equivalent parts:
https://elektrotanya.com/showresult?what=telequipment-d-83&kategoria=meter&kat2=all

You won't get far servicing these without a 3KV rated meter as the EHT is -2750V !
The EHT oscillator stage is known to fail, mine did a couple times and it was busted when I got it however that was a simple fix after finding the 150 Ohm NTC thermistor in series on the unregulated EHT oscillator supply.

Many of the high value carbon comp resistors drift way outta spec or even go open such is the stress on EHT components in CRO's.
Best advice is to fix it and ensure it's stable then flick it for a modern DSO that will serve you much better instead of robbing valuable hobbyist time fixing old CRO's.  :horse:
