Thx for the link! :-+
I've recapped my one. Because of a mishap I'm now waiting for transistors to be delivered. :palm:
Report will follow.

Hi,
For anyone looking for a modern solution with a wider frequency range than the HP HP461A, take a look at these opamps:
THS3201 and especially the THS3202
The THS3202 is especially impressive, very high slew rate and large power bandwidth.
Take a look at the whole series of THS opamps from TI if you are looking for true broadband products.
Oh yes, you will have to treat these products as if they were a UHF transmitter, so do not use breadboard techniques,
then you will never get a nice flat frequency characteristic.
Kind regards,
Bram

Haven't watched his videos since the filming of the destruction of mint condition HP 212A & 8690B, I instantly unsubscribed. If any of my friends ask me to rip tubes out of TE for them, they will instantly become an ex-friend.

I agree, they are fine parts, did some nice designs with them, but both are now NRND :(

Everyone can get the impulse. HP 6114 switch
But I don't think the 8690B had any kind of infuriating quality issues that make people want to tear it apart.. It's not like the front panel comes pouring out when you lift a screw. I know not to buy that one though, because the scale it has is like a radio, an I had the displeasure of working on one of those before, I stay away lol
that bar-scale on top is easy to like have some non obvious slip issues and possibly odd plastic broken parts or bands or whatever, and I know this part can make someone irate in short order
I had a very old radio with alot of features like that, with crappy double sided tape that was decaying and I am pretty sure natural fiber strings that pull the various scales around on pullys and since then I typically don't get too mad with most equipment unless it uses overcomplicated plastic parts
the one that will make you feel like you failed at life the most I think is the ones that pull a banner up, that is like they roll up the 4 or so inch wide 'tapestry' with frequencies on it. i can imagine ghandi flipping out on that one. mechanical flat screen swipe display
but I am convinced if someone put a little bit more effort and thought and a few pennies more into the HP 6114 switch, world history would be different. We might not have moved to digital controls.
