Hewlett Packard HP461A Wide Band Amplifier

--- Quote from: blackdog on December 24, 2024, 11:55:11 am ---For anyone looking for a modern solution with a wider frequency range than the HP HP461A, take a look at these opamps:
THS3201 and especially the THS3202
The THS3202 is especially impressive, very high slew rate and large power bandwidth.
Take a look at the whole series of THS opamps from TI if you are looking for true broadband products.
Oh yes, you will have to treat these products as if they were a UHF transmitter, so do not use breadboard techniques,
then you will never get a nice flat frequency characteristic.

I posted an example of how it can be done with modern parts and what type of construction is required. The hard part is preventing coupling between the output of the amplifier chain and input.

I do not own the unit, but IMHO any modern jellybean Si transistors will work there fine.
The number of amplification stages is 5, therefore ~8-10dB per stage is doable with "almost" anything from your junkbox (like with ft=500MHz+)..
PS: no idea what the inductors values there are like, so it is just an estimate..
