Hello, I am new here and have been browsing to see what the general consensus is on current clamps. A lot of people like the cheaper Uni-T stuff, but I am a fan of buying equipment once and have heard varying opinions on them. I am looking to get a meter that will be able to pretty reliably gauge starter current and EV motor phase current (200-500A), so it does need to be in the higher current range. I don't need crazy accuracy, but I like looking at the high accuracy stuff and this is for personal projects, so if its within the budget of about 800 for a probe, I don't mind.
I was very close to purchasing a Hioki current clamp (CM4373-50), but I noticed it had practically nonexistant accuracy at lower currents (1A<x<60A). Other models seem to have better accuracy at lower current but less high peak current, but overall it appears that the Agilent Keysight U1213A clamp meter has overall better accuracy. But then, it seems people here complain about how slow it acquires measurements, however? I haven't seen too many reviews of these pieces of equipment as they're not as popular due to their price tag.
Anyways, a third option is to use Hioki Current clamps that are meant for power analyzers (CT6841A-CT6846A for example). Their listings on TEquipment and on Hioki's website claim they are usable with an oscilloscope. When New, these probes are multiple thousands of dollars, but there appears to be a used market for the old stuff. I found a listing for a CT6846-05 (the old version, non "A") for 800$. It appears to be "excess aerospace surplus" according to the Ebay listing.
Ebay Listing in question: My question after all that rambling is: Has anyone heard of fake Hioki current clamp probes on ebay? Or do you guys think this is legit? If legit, what kind of oscilloscope would be required to "run" this thing? I know it needs its own power supply, I am accounting for that. It seems that it just outputs a specific amount of mV/Amp, so I would think a standard ~$600 range scope would suffice, but I figure I'd ask first. Also if other companies have new/used probes in my price range that are better value, please let me know, as its very hard to cover all my bases before making this post.
