Hitachi V-1565 Input Voltage
« on: August 08, 2013, 07:48:48 am »
I can grab this oscilloscope for a good price, however I do not know what is the input voltage (seller did not respond yet). I live in Israel hence I need a 230V capable device.

I've seen a photo of a similar model:

And you can see it is dual-voltage. Are all Hitachi V-1XXX Oscilloscopes dual-voltage, or there are 115V only units?
In the case of the latter, will it be a hard task to convert it to 230V? Do they usually have these dual 115V primary transformers that can be wired in series to get 230V?
Like this:

Thanks!

The operations manual is available here, complete with a whole bunch of cute oscilloscope cartoons  :)
It says 90-250V for the V-1565 so you should be OK!

Thanks for the manual. It does say "90-250V" in the specification table on the bottom of the sheet, but at the top (fuse replacement instructions), there is a different story:

Hmmm...  :-BROKE

Different fuses because of different regulatory requirements? It's easy enough to replace a fuse.

I would guess that it's powered by an universal input SMPS internally. The wide voltage range and the fact that it uses fuses with the same current rating for all line voltages points towards it. I second alms theory on the regulatory requirements for the fuses.

See if you can get hold of the service manual for the oscilloscope, you'll probably need it sooner or later.
