I wanted to do a detailed teardown of the Hakko FR-810 and the Quick 861DW on stream next week when I have time.
I am not an engineer by any means and was curious what components/aspects of design people would be most interested in seeing. I was speaking with someone from Pace who said that a long time ago the Quick gear was "burning itself on the table while it was on" which hasn't been my experience with it. More notable brands will first bring up the poor safety of the cheaper units. In the case of the $40 Hakko FX-951 clones, I certainly saw terrible workmanship on the inside that was obvious. I was curious what else to look for besides uncut through hole component legs.
Thank you!

I think it's nothing more than bullshit from pace salesman. I own 861DS for like 6-7 years. I placed like 40 boards on by desk needing same connector to be replaced and done them in the row non stop for several hours without any issues. And it's pretty well built, I didn't see any problems. Heater is double insulated, I did not see any safety problems at all. It still has the same heater, if it was something like Aoyue crap, I would replace it 5+ times already. Also I worked at manufacturer authorized mobile phone repair center 7+ years ago. Quick gear was recommended by Motorola at that time.
