How do i test a ic that produces a square wave with a scope?

Hello everyone! I currently have an ic that goes in my powe supply that needs to be tested. It produces an square wave and i know i can measure it with a scope but im not quite sure how.
i have looked on the Internet but all that pops up is using a signal generator which is useless info since what i am testing is if the ic produces a square wave or not. The square wave is fed into a transistor to boost the voltage from 12v ac to 45v ac to charge some caps that rase it to 110v ac. The transistor self destructed itself and i think it may have been due to ether something wrong with the ic or even just its age. How exactly would i set up this kind of test up? I am new to using scopes so any help would be great!

What is the IC? Find the datasheet, look for the output pin, and connect your probe to the output pin.

If three 100 Ohm resistors are connected in parallel, and in series with a 200 Ohm resistor, how many resistors do you have?

And with that probing technique you are likely to see edges like this (or worse)

when the waveform is actually like this

the ic is a cn587t. I cant seem to find a data sheet or even a ic i can use to substitute the ic with if it doesn't work.
