HP 183A - "light shield and contrast filter" - modern replacements?
(1/1)
py-bb:
Hi there,
I've been asked to repair a lovely analogue HP oscilloscope which is a little out of my comfort zone.
Reading the manual page 2in the physical copy (page 2-2) talks about removing "the light shield" and "contrast filter" - "which also acts as an RFI shield"
When I turn it on I can see small sparks between the bottom left corner of the tube and whatever's behind the faceplate (I'm going to investigate that when I've read more of the manual)
Any ideas on a modern replacement for the "contrast filter" at least would be good (or someone who knows re-assuring me on CRTs, I rarely saw those filters on CRT computer monitors as a kid and I don't know if they were useless/nonsense or not even).
I am aware of the very high voltage inside. For another repair the manual says "short the annode to the ground lug" - any tips on that whilst I'm on the subject? I've been reading and will check Youtube but I'd love someone to go "what this guy does [on Youtube or a blog or whatever] - you can trust him" because there's a lot of stupidity out there.
Thanks
