Title: HP 35660A DSA Battery Location
Post by: Smoky on May 14, 2019, 03:10:48 am
For those who have disassembled an HP 35660A in the past, would you happen to know the location of the back-up battery?

I lifted the case on my DSA over the weekend for a quick cleaning expecting to find a battery that keeps the time and date current.

No battery in sight.

Thank you!

If the 35660A is like the 35665A, then it's on the board just under the power supply. Here is the process for the 35665A:

Thank you Tomorokoshi.

Unfortunately, the memory boards differ between the 35660A and the 35665A. And from what I've read, the 35665A has many more options and capabilities. Also, the 35660A memory board is totally populated with chips with no room for an "AA" cell.

I downloaded the 35660A service manual from Keysight and none of the schematics show a symbol for a battery either.

I also spoke with George from GLK and he doesn't believe the 35660A has a battery similar to the 35665A.

On top of that, the interior of my early 35660A differs with the 35660A Dave explores in his tear-down video. I think Dave even mentions that his boards didn't jive with the schematics.

The clock in my machine reverts back to 9/27/88.

Serial number 2816A00399

Version A.00.01

Anyway, my DSA runs absolutely fine and passes all internal tests, so there is probably no harm leaving things as they are.

*Update* For those who own a 35660A, 35665A, 3588A, or a 3589A, Newscope will be introducing color LCD retrofit kits for your DSA this year.

Also, I discovered that there is a Google Group that consists of the HP design engineers who built the 35660A and the 35665A DSA's.
