| HP 3580a known problems - CAL signal & red LED subassembly? |

| slbender:
Hi, all knowledgeable techs, I recently received a vintage later HP 3580a with LED digital readout. The set has a proper CRT display showing both the baseline and sweep. It appears that the red led readout display, along with the internal CAL signal are inop. and that assembly is somewhat bulging outward like the top of a bad ‘lytic capacitor. Removing the top cover, I noticed that from a prior repair, several internal screws are missing, and there is a 20 pin connector coming from that right side LED subassembly that instead of being on its 20 pins, has been forced/jammed into the space near its 20 pins, with none of the pins making electrical contact. The whole red LED readout subassembly seems to be held in place by about ten to twelve screws on the right side of the set. Is anyone sufficiently familiar with that red LED subassembly, and its switches, who can tell me for sure that the CAL signal also originates in there, or are there two different problems to solve here? Thanks, Steven |

Update I pulled the subassembly out, plugged in the 20 pin connector and now the red LED assembly and the CAL signal are present and working pretty much as expected, might need some adjustments but working as expected. Steven |
