| HP 54701A Active Probe Noise Level |
| (1/1) |
| JoeyP:
The user manual for HP 54701A 2.5GHz active probe shows a noise spec of <300mv RMS referred to Output. That seems like an unbelievably high noise level, to the point that I'm wondering if it's a typo (but I haven't been able to find a correction anywhere). Compare for example the HP 1157A 2.5GHz active probe with a noise spec of <3mv RMS referred to Input. These are both 2.5GHz 10:1 probes, so converting the 1157A spec yields <300uv referred to Output. If the 54701A spec were <300uv instead of <300mv, that would make their noise spec identical, which is a lot more plausible. But, even assuming it IS a typo, the real value could be something different entirely, so I don't want to buy one without knowing. Can any of you owners of the 54701A shed some light on their real noise level? I have the 1157A probe and can confirm their noise spec is realistic, but it is only directly compatible with the so called "Autoprobe Interface" of their scopes. I'm considering buying a 54701A probe for use with other instruments since it has a standard N connector output and only minimal power/control requirements. |
