HP 85901A AC Power Supply
« on: March 16, 2017, 09:32:58 pm »
Anyone familiar with the HP 85901A AC power source?  I know they have a battery and can provide up to 200W for a period of time to the 859X series of analyzers.  I also see they have connectors on the back for what looks like other wiring options.  I am wondering if the power is cleaner than typical AC mains and if it would be worth while to have one for low-noise measurements using a spectrum analyzer.  Most of the applications shown are using an analyzer in the fields.  Basically a boat anchor sized battery to go along with your boat anchor.  Since I have a lot of boat anchors I was thinking of making one luggable, unless the power+noise coming out of them is really low.  But then again, most of my noise comes from broadcast band FM.

There's a guy locally that has one with a new battery for a good price.

Thanks
